Terex® TM350 Acquires Super Hero Status

Motherwell 2nd Dec 2008:   A new Terex® TM350 material handler is helping Bolton-based Metro Salvage enhance its reputation as an ‘environmental hero’ in the North West. The company specialises in recycling end of life vehicles (ELV) and can process up to 1,000 cars a month, making it one of the largest ELV stations in the region.

Founded in 2002 by owner and manager, Mr. Walker, and employing 29 staff, the company’s new Terex® TM350 replaces an existing Terex® Atlas 1804 which, according to Mr. Walker, has given exemplary service.

The wheeled 32.5-tonne Terex® TM350 with its 161kW diesel engine and computer controlled AWE 4 hydraulic system, is helping Metro Salvage recycle 95% of the vehicles that come across its weighbridge. Customers simply log on to the company’s website to arrange collection.

The vehicles are de-polluted, stripped of any serviceable parts, including tyres, and then baled into crushed block. The parts, which can be anything from engines and gearboxes to wing mirrors and stereos, are then refurbished and offered for resale.

The company works with a lot of later models and high-performance cars, and enjoys a growing reputation for processing luxury vehicles including Mercedes, Porsche and Jaguar.

Yard manager, Jason Brookes, is delighted with the performance of his new machine. He comments: “The Terex® 1804 was strong, robust and extremely reliable, so I have no concerns about its successor.

“The Terex® TM350 is now the main workhorse in the yard and is proving to be fast, versatile and completely dependable. It needs to be, because if that stops, it has a dramatic knock-on effect throughout the yard.

“The driver loves it and I know if I do have any problems, I’ll get an immediate response from Terex.”

In the six years it has been trading, Metro Salvage has grown to become a major player in the North West ELV sector, a region that sees a total of 1.2 million cars dumped and collected each year. No wonder it’s an environmental hero.
