Fourth Terex® Material Handler Purchased By Karalius Brothers

MOTHERWELL, SCOTLAND, 27TH JANUARY 2009 ---  A major force in the metals recycling industry, Widnes-based Karalius Brothers (Waste) Ltd., which employs 15, has taken delivery of another tracked 1804lci, bringing the number of Terex® material handlers in its fleet to four -- the company now operates three tracked 1804s and one wheeled 1804MI.

Specialising in the processing of all industrial generated scrap, the company is owned and managed by brothers Terry and Frank Karalius, sons of Terry Karalius, who founded the business in the 1960s. In addition to buying ferrous and non-ferrous metals, Karalius Brothers Ltd. operates a skip hire service covering all parts of the North West, caters for site clearance and demolition, and deals in re-usable stainless steel tanks, vessels and valves.

Continuing to invest despite the credit crunch, Karalius Brothers is using its latest 1804 with its 16-metre reach to help process 2,000 tonnes of scrap each week. Concentrating mainly on ferrous and non-ferrous material, the business also holds an End-of-Life Vehicle licence for handling end-of-life vehicles.

“We chose the new 1804 for a number of reasons,” says Terry Karalius. “First of all, the machines had a proven track record in our own yard. We, therefore, wanted to continue with its strong, rugged design, offering a high degree of stability, plus reliable and easy access engine components.  With four machines in the fleet, three tracked and one wheeled, we also knew we could depend on Terex for prompt, local after-sales service.

“This is a tough business needing tough machines, and whilst we’ve looked at alternatives, we firmly believe that Terex® material handlers still represent the best option in terms of performance.”
